With this in mind, we collaborated on a project to address a unique ergonomic challenge: creating chairs tailored to vastly different body types.
Why Ergonomic Adjustment Is Crucial
A poorly fitted chair can lead to discomfort and muscle strain. Now imagine the challenges faced by individuals whose anthropometric characteristics fall far outside typical standards. For these people, finding a chair that truly meets their needs is often a daunting task.
This is where expertise in ergonomics and custom design comes into play. Every element—from seat height to backrest depth and weight capacity—must be optimized to provide proper support.
A Project That Pushes the Boundaries of Ergonomics
As part of this project, we collaborated with an ergonomics expert from Vincent Ergonomie to conduct precise measurements on two participants: one under 4 feet tall and another over 7 feet tall. Using this data, we designed custom chairs tailored not only to their size but also to their specific posture and comfort needs.
This project extended beyond chairs to include the design of a complete work environment, incorporating other furniture elements to ensure each user could work under optimal conditions.
Custom Chairs: Striking the Balance Between Precision and Durability
To meet the participants’ highly specific needs, we created two ergonomic chairs that exemplify the precision and durability of our expertise. The Quatra, a model from Bouty, is easily adaptable for individuals of smaller stature. It features a short cylinder for precise adjustments, a sliding seat, and arms adjustable in height and width, offering optimal comfort and perfect ergonomics.
Conversely, ADI’s Everest is designed to accommodate larger builds and intensive use. Equipped with an executive backrest for taller individuals, a reinforced cylinder for heavy loads, and a polished aluminum base, this chair delivers exceptional sturdiness and durability while maintaining superior comfort.
